Medical Science has advanced a lot and has helped in the progress of society. With the development in technology in the field of medical sciences there is more control over life and death and one of the most debated questions of our time is whether an individual should be given the right to control the manner and timing of one’s death and whether it is legal for an individual to assist someone in doing so. The debate on the issue of euthanasia is one of the most hotly debated issues of our times. Building consensus on the issue is very difficult yet people have more or less accepted passive euthanasia for certain serious cases.

The word euthanasia comes from the Greek word “Eu Thanatos” meaning “well death” and is known as “mercy killing” internationally. It is the act of death that is brought about by the minimum amount of pain and suffering to the patient.

Euthanasia has various types, Active Euthanasia means the end of an individual’s life by a medical practitioner for merciful reasons that are when the patient is under great pain or suffering and a lethal dose of medicine is given so that the patient can have a peaceful death. Passive Euthanasia is when the treatment is withheld from being administered or other supportive measures’ are stopped. Voluntary Euthanasia is when the patient voluntarily requests for his life to be put an end. The patient himself makes a decision to end his life. Involuntary Euthanasia means that the decision to end the patient’s life is made by his guardians or family when there is no hope of recovery of the patient. Physically Assisted Euthanasia is when a physician prescribes medicine and the patient or a third party administers the medicine so that the patient dies without any suffering. Suicide is when a person decides to end their life on their own will. But when an individual finds it impossible to do this act himself due to physical or mental infirmity, old age, mental illness or disease and requests someone to help him to end his life, it is here when the question of debate rises and one questions ethics.

Active Euthanasia is illegal in India and Passive Euthanasia in “exceptional circumstances”. India is a vast country with different-different cultures and ethnicities, for some the act of euthanasia is against the will of God and for some giving up of the soul is an act to be one with the higher power for others it is a basic right that must be available to individuals.

One of the major arguments in support of euthanasia are that terminally ill people are likely to be in a lot of pain. Sometimes it’s cruel to make them suffer by prolonging the treatment. It is not wise, humane, and compassionate or even medically sounds to continue with the treatment. It would be cruel and inhumane to continue to cure when the patient has no hope of recovery. It’s not ethical to keep a patient hooked to life support when the patient’s chance of survival is zero. Besides taking an emotional, economical and psychological toll on the relatives and family of the patient it is not ethical to keep the patient alive on life support. Law or medical ethics don’t say that a person needs to be kept alive on life-sustaining treatments when there is no hope of recovery. If euthanasia is legalized the doctors will be bound by law and will have to follow a prescribed pattern of reporting and will be answerable to the law. There will be guidelines to follow and the doctor will himself report on such cases. It will be in the ambit of law and will create a safer environment for the patient. The patient will be able to refuse treatment when he wishes and doctors who do not respect the patient’s wishes can be charged by law.

Some of the frequent arguments one hears against Euthanasia are that it does not value human life and its sanctity. No matter how ill one is, the illness or the disease does not take away from us the fact that we are humans and the life that has been given to us is sacred. There is immense dignity in being a human and Euthanasia is against the principle of sanctity of life and it is to preserve this sanctity of life that some feel that if Euthanasia is permitted it would endanger the life of the sick, disabled and vulnerable people as the law itself will be unfavorable for them. If we embrace the “right to die with dignity” people with incurable diseases are likely to be disposed of from our society.

Now days with the advancement of science, there are cures for almost all diseases hence there is more control over pain, so legalizing Euthanasia would be underestimating the power of science and technology. Many diseases in the past were incurable and now they are curable so the “right to die” would just be accepting incurability. Also, how can one predict death, even though it’s very rare for terminally ill people to get better and get cured there is always a possibility. Medicine is as much an art as it is a science and nobody can predict whether a patient will live or die. Euthanasia instills in people a defeatist attitude that their life no matter how precious it is of no importance. Usually, people with terminal illness believe that here are only two options available for the one that they suffer in pain and are miserable or they receive euthanasia.

It is true that euthanasia can help in health care cost reduction but that is where we miss the point, the whole idea of health care is to increase the longevity of life and when we start calculating the economics we are way off the mark. The whole concept of health care is based on giving good care to the patients so that they can live a strong and healthy life and Individuals who are terminally ill, are old, mentally ill, disabled is not a burden on society and if euthanasia is legalized it would encourage people to think on these lines.

After analyzing both the arguments for and against euthanasia it is right to conclude that arguments against euthanasia outweigh the arguments for euthanasia. Passive Euthanasia in extreme circumstances can be allowed only when there is a strict law in place and rather than establishing a policy which might affect a large number of people, passive euthanasia should be allowed only in extreme circumstances.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan: A Mission to Clean India

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan or Clean India Mission was a nation-wide campaign from 2014 to 2019 to clean up the streets, roads, and infrastructure of cities, towns and rural areas. This scheme was aimed to eradicate open defecation prevalent in India. This mission got a huge success since it was started. This brings a revolution in the mindset of the people towards making the country clean.

The mission was started by Honourable Prime Minister of our Country Shri Narendra Modi on 2^nd October 2014 at Rajghat, New Delhi. It is India’s largest cleanliness campaign till the date. In this campaign, nine personalities were nominated by PM Narendra Modi to in turn nominate nine other people and so on. The targets of the mission to clean India and make it open defecation free by 2019, on the 150^th birth anniversary of the Mahatma Gandhi the father of the Nation. The basic objective behind the Swachh Bharat Mission is to create sanitation facilities for all and eliminate completely the unhealthy practice of responding to nature’s call in the open. It aims to provide every rural family with a toilet by 2019. The main logo of the campaign was “Ek Kadam Swachhta Ki Ore”

Every school affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education have been told to take part in the Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan under the “Swachh Bharat Swachh Vidyalaya Campaign”. To promote sensibility amongst children regarding daily hygiene and the basic sense of cleanliness, the Board has asked the affiliated school to organize activities like essay writing and painting competitions, drama and debate competitions all was to promote Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and cleanliness amongst children. People should not only see Swachh Bharat Abhiyan as a campaign by the Government or an exercise because there is no doubt about the fact that change begins at home. Every citizen of the country should be clean and have hygiene and think of progress rather than waiting for the Government to make this plan successful.

All authorities responsible for the Swachh Bharat program even up to grass root level and even an individual employee. One should know where to reach and who to ask when hurdles come. In our societies, you have commonly seen that one clean their home and put the waste in front of their neighbor and the neighbor, in turn, puts the waste in front of their house. We have to change our mindsets and take responsibility to make the change. There no place where we can put it. There should be the arrangement of large dustbins and also good in number in each locality so that after sweeping and cleaning we know where to put the waste. Swachh Bharat Campaign will take on with its momentum if everyone puts its effort into it such as the Government should install at least one the bin with Lamppost or tree near each crossing, so that people are encouraged to put their waste in the bin. Also, several measures to be taken so that bins cannot be stolen or broken. Bins in all eateries, restaurant and even hawkers should be made mandatory. All religious places organizing Langer or gatherings should have proper arrangements of dustbins for plates, glasses or left food materials. Market associations should also be involved in this campaign as markets are one of the main sources of garbage littering. Also, we can take the help of our silver screen or celebrities. If the message of cleanliness will be flashed in movies and serials or there will be the promotion of cleaning our country it will have a great impact on the life of the common people or youngsters.

Cleanliness should be everybody’s business and not just of any single entity and certainly not that of the Government alone. This partnership for a good cause is a great opportunity for our country.

One of the biggest causes of the increasing Unemployment rate is continuously increasing population. Due to these problems poverty, lack of proper resources, health problems and many other severe problems have arisen in our country. The growing population means more mouths to feed and more hands to seek jobs. The growth of population has resulted in the increasing number of children enrolling in schools and universities.

Due to increase population, every student or child is not even getting equal educational facilities in colleges or universities.

As in our education system, theoretical knowledge is more prefer over practical knowledge, since childhood we are encouraged for cramming rather than understanding. Our educational system fails to confirm or fulfil the requirements in the present job opportunities. A report was published, according to that report most of the students pass out every year do not fulfil criteria required by corporate and Industries to be able to get a job there. For solving this huge problem both government and citizen will have to take some calculative steps and solve the problem together. First, we have to check our fast-growing population. Without population control, no plan can get us the desired results. Another major step which the government has to take is to revise our education policy and propose a new education structure. The need is to promote vocational and practical training. Provide internships in institutions to students during the studies or after passing out. As technology is rapidly increasing computers have made their reach everywhere so, everyone should focus on basic computer skills and technical knowledge which can help someone to place somewhere. Students should work as part-time in any firm during their studies which can help them learning practical skills and exploring corporate and industry culture. Schools and Universities should organize various seminars and events where professionals and counsellors give the knowledge of different career options and some other life lessons which will help them to know, explore and choose the right career available in the market. Also, one to one counselling session should also be provided to each and every student.

Parents should also understand the true passion and the potential of their children and give them the freedom to pursue what they actually want.

The Government should also on its part take some important steps to get rid of the problem. They should also provide opportunities and resources to help youth to achieve their dream. Government should promote Entrepreneurship, Tourism and media industries. Because these sectors give the most number of employments. The government should promote tourism because tourism will boost employment and the economy as well. It is said that a single tourist gives employment to 7 to 10 people in a direct or indirect way. So, the Government should propose more tourist sites and also maintain the existing.

The government should promote entrepreneurship and make easy rules and regulations for entrepreneurs because our country needs “Job givers, not Job seekers”. With the objective of generating employment, the government has already started many programs in rural and urban areas like National Rural Employment Programme, National Scheme of Training of Rural Youth, etc, For promoting self-employment with prospective of increasing employment.

According to Hindu religion believes that there was a devil king named Hiranyakashayp long ago. He was very powerful. He had a son whose name was Prahlad and a sister named Holika. It is said that the Hiranyakashayap had blessings of Lord Brahma. Those blessings were that no man, no animal or weapon can kill him. This blessing turned bane for him as he became very arrogant. He ordered his Kingdom to worship him instead of God, but his own son refused to do that. Following his order, everyone in the kingdom started worshiping him except his Son Prahlad. Prahlad was a true follower of Lord Vishnu and so that he refused to worship his father instead of Lord Vishnu. When the king comes to know that his son had disobedient his order he got angry and first he tried to make understood his son but when his disobedience continues then king planned with his sister to kill Prahlad. He made her sit in the fire with his son on Holika’s lap, where Holika got burned and Prahlad came out safe. This proved that he was protected by Lord Vishnu because of his devotion. Then, People started celebrating Holi as the victory of good over evil.

People celebrate Holi with utmost happiness and enthusiasm in India, especially in North India. A day before Holi, People do a ritual called ‘Holika Dahan’. In this people collect heaps of wood and pile them in public areas to burn. It is the symbol of burning evil powers revising the story of Holika and King Hiranyakashyap. Further, all people gather around the Holika to seek blessings and offer their devotion to God.

The next day It is probably the most colourful day in India. People get up early in the morning and worship God and offer colours and dishes to God. Then, they play with colours and put colours on the face of each other. Children enjoy it most by playing with water guns and various colours. Also, many adults also become children on this day and enjoy the moment with the utmost happiness. They rub colour on each other’s faces and immerse themselves in water.

By the end of the day In the evening, people take a bath and dress up and visit their neighbours, friends, and family. They enjoy dance throughout the day and drink a special drink called the ‘bhaang’.

People of all ages relish holi’s special delicacy ‘gujiya’ ardently.

Overall, Holi is a festival spreads love, happiness, and brotherhood. It brings harmony, happiness and a feeling of brotherhood in the country. Importance of Time

Life is too short yet people spend it like a prodigal. Most of us do not understand the true value of time, the most valuable gift we have get from God. The waste of time we indulge in is really surprising. Most of us have not been taught or told how to value and use this treasure which is called time. The most precious seconds which can be used for something very excellent are wasted away in thoughtless and purposeless things. If people care for their time then time cares for them. It is universally said that time is more precious than money because money can be get back with time but time can’t be get back with money. Time is universal and eternal. We all grow in time, live in time and ultimately we perish in time. Time may not be defined exactly, but somewhere we all know that what it is and how valuable it is.

Our life is like a bubble, a short morning dream, brittle as glass and, therefore, we should take good care of it and make the best out of it. We all want fame, success, happiness, and prosperity in life but there are only a few people who able to achieve this because only they make the best of their time. We all have 24 hours in a day whether one is rich or poor, man or woman, he or she belongs to any religion or country time is the only thing which is distributed equally to everyone. Time and tide wait for none. They cannot be commanded. They are to be used in the best possible manner. We should be prepared to make the best use of an opportunity when offered; Time once lost can never be recovered. The flow of time is ceaseless and eternal and we all are like small, insignificant and helpless particles in this endless and continuous flow. Time is density. It is more powerful than monarchs, princes, and rulers. These come and go but time is forever, eternal, inevitable, without an end and without any beginning. Time is creation, birth, growth, ageing, decay and also death. Nothing escapes time. Time is abstract but its footprints are concrete and palpable. Time may be spent wisely or foolishly. The choice is ones and so are its consequences. It is the basic building block that goes into making our success, career, happiness, and status in society.

                             

All successful men and women have been a great economizer of time. They never squandered their evenings, mornings, afternoons or nights but used them in the best possible way. This helped them to not only find a place in the history of mankind but could also change its course. They have left their footprints on the sands of time.

We should try to follow these great and successful people, the heroes of history, the guiding stars of humanity.

It is foolish to think that we can make up for lost time or recover it. The past is dead and the future unborn. There are no tomorrows and yesterdays. It is only today which is important. It is really sad that people spent their present in repenting over the uselessly spent past. We waste our precious moments either grieving over the past blunders or making castles in the air for the future. In other words, we waste today in fretting over the dead yesterday, or in day-dreaming about tomorrow, which yet does not exist at all. Men are great, good and famous in the proportion of the time best utilized. All men and women of substance make the best use of time and opportunity. In this context, it has been beautifully said that ‘Time wasted is mere existence, used is life’. How many of us are really alive in this sense is the million-dollar question? Time is eternal, boundless, and endless and without either end or beginning but for every individual, it is very limited, finite and short-lived. You can neither borrow nor steal nor earn time. When we say ‘A stitch in time saves nine’, we say the same thing idiomatically. A work done in time is time earned; a decisive action at a given moment is vital. Successful men and women seldom talk about leisure because they hardly have any time to spare. Their every moment is well planned. It is the idler who has sufficient time to gossip, to indulge in loose talk, to rue the lost past and to build castles in the air for the future.

Proper use of time means the right use of an opportunity. Remember, time is money. It is precious and it never waits for anyone. Opportunities are few and far between. That is why they are rare and called golden. The wise make the best use of them when they occur. Those of us, who miss them or fail to recognize them in time, have to repent all our life. It also implies that we should be punctual and regular in our work-schedule. Nothing should be done in fits and starts. We are often plagued with lethargy, passivity, indecision, procrastination, and vacillation and these are our greatest enemies. We should always keep in mind that we have to make the best out of our limited precious time.
